Gay-Straight Alliance club in the works, needs adviser

(Editors’ Note: Following the publication of Issue 3, the former co-adviser of the last AHS Gay-Straight Alliance club emailed Parkinson saying that she was interested in advising the new GSA.) This past summer, Senior Pawel Parkinson launched the Facebook group “AHS SUPPORTS LGBT PEOPLE” in an anti-bullying campaign. Students regularly post on the group wall bullying events in the news, inspirational quotes, song lyrics and more. So far, 110 Athens High School students and community members have joined the group.

Seniors head to local nonprofits for day of volunteering

On Friday, Nov. 18, over half the seniors of Athens High School took a break from school and made a difference in the Athens community.

“[Senior Make a Difference Day] was very successful,” said Senior Class Adviser Brian Dearing. “I love how our seniors give back to the community that they grew up in. And it’s a good opportunity to do some career exploration.”

Ohio voters say no to Issue 2, more legislation to come

The popular Schoolhouse Rock lyric, “I’m just a bill/ Yes, I’m only a bill/ And I’m sitting here on Capitol Hill,” though educational, downplays the political and emotional effects bills have on U.S. denizens.

On Nov. 8, 2011, Ohioans voted “No” on Issue 2 by a huge margin, drawing the attention of national media sources as well.
