The weather is getting nicer, and softball season is fast approaching for the Athens High School team.
After a successful win against Logan on March 26, the team is confident for the rest of the season.
“Winning our first game against Logan was really exciting and the team was really pumped up,” said Freshman Haley Bissell. “And even if we do lose games, we need to stay strong and work hard every day.”
Senior captains Abby Pomento and Tiffany James are confident about this season. “We have a lot of new freshmen that have great potential and heart,” said Abby Pomento. “We think we could have one of the best teams in the TVC this year, we just need to have the heart to play and a team that bonds from the freshmen all the way up to the seniors.”
The team is coached by Nick Pomento and assistant coached by Roger Bissell. Nick Pomento is highly anticipating the upcoming season. “I expect the seniors to be leaders and help and nurture the younger players. I anticipate this season to be good with a very competitive team.”
Senior captain Tiffany James brought up that it was important to her to have a strong team. She said, “As a senior, it is important that the team comes together as a family. I would love to leave this season with a TVC champion banner.”
The team is hoping for more student to attend the games this year, “we need more student support that we haven’t gotten in the past,” said Nick Pomento.
